So, the Knockout rounds of The Voice started last night and end tonight. Next week, we go into Live Rounds! My favorite. Here are my first impressions of the Adam and Shakira Knockouts (SPOILER ALERT):

TEAM SHAKIRA

- They were mostly boring. I love Kris Thomas, but any sleepy rendition of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” that can be heard on 97.1 makes me want to press FF, if only NBC allowed this OnDemand option. I did dig Mary Miranda‘s out-of-the-box musical choice, but her creativity overpowered her talent and she was sent home.

- The Knockout between Karina Iglesias and Monique Abbadie was also somewhat yawn-inspiring. Karina’s gritty vocal power reminds me of season one’s Beverly McLellan and Vicci Martinez, just not as good. If only she stripped it down a little next time (she’s-a-stayin’), I think she could be really great. Monique’s song choice  k i l l e d  me. And not in a good way.  Songs than can be heard on the Adult Alternative station sound completely dull when performed exactly like I’ve heard them for years.

TEAM ADAM

-  These knockouts were a little more interesting. Judith Hill vs. Orlando Dixon might have been an unfair match, but someone had to go against Ms. “I toured with Michael Jackson.” Adam stole DC Dixon from Usher’s team last week and this week we bid adieu to the last local contestant. To put it simply, he sang another ballad the way I’d heard a million times and she was better.

- The best Knockout of the night (in my humble opinion) belonged to Sarah Simmons and Warren Stone. I love Sarah’s voice– it’s ethereal and haunting. Also, Warren’s song choice was my favorite of the night. A good pairing, indeed, but, ultimately, Sarah’s voice prevailed.

Hopefully TEAM USHER and TEAM BLAKE‘s Knockouts tonight are more exciting!
